As Director, Mike is responsible for the oversight of the Nevada Divisions of Aging Services, Health, Mental Health and Developmental Services, Health Care Policy and Financing, Welfare and Supportive Services, Child and Family Services, the Nevada Indian Commission and the Office of the Public Defender. The Director’s Office also administers the Senior Rx Program, Office of Disability Services and Office of Suicide Prevention. Previous to his current appointment, Mike concluded a 25-year career with the state Division of Welfare and Supportive Services and was appointed Division Administrator in June 2000. Mike began full-time state service with the state in 1976 as a welfare eligibility worker, and went on to hold positions of successive responsibility, including Internal Auditor, Program Specialist, Program Chief, Deputy Administrator and Administrative Services Officer. Over the years, Mike has proved to be a knowledgeable and experienced leader who has been instrumental in the development of several initiatives that have benefited employees and helped streamline programs to the advantage of Nevada’s children and adults. He has provided leadership and management in the development of four strategic plans which were funded by the 2001 Legislature: People with Disabilities, Senior Services, Rural Health Care, and Provider Rates. Mike holds a degree in business administration from Southern Utah University, and is a proud native Nevadan.
